Research clusters and institutes

Interdisciplinary research, shared equipement and experimental facilities

The research clusters and institutes aim to federate the research groups of the universities and the research institutes in Aquitaine around the areas of interest of INRA. These clusters coordinate research and expertise at national and European scale, developped share facilities : analytical plateforms and experimental facilities at regional and national scale. They also contribute to built formation for undergraduate programs (masters) and doctoral schools within Bordeaux University, "Pau et Pays de l’Adour" University and Agricultural College of Bordeaux (ENITAB). Finally the research clusters participate to transfer of innovation through applied projects with industry.

Plant Integrative Biology (Inra, Cnrs, Bordeaux 1 & 2 Universities)

Research on genomics of plant-pathogens interactions (virus, mollicutes), fruit physiology and maturation, genetic and genomic of lignous plant (trees, tree fruit, vine) constitute the core of the Plant Integrative Biology (Federative Research Institute N° 103).
This basic science institute has its own experimental facilities such as genotyping, transcriptomic, metabolomic and bio-imaging platforms within the functional genomic cluster but also level 2 (GMO) and level 3 (pathogens) greenhouses.

Vine and Wine (Inra, Bordeaux 1, 2, 3 & 4 Universities, Enitab)
Research on agronomy (vine eco-physiology), health and pathology, genetic, genomic and grape fruit quality are implemented in the Vine and Wine Sciences Institute located on the Inra Campus. This basic and applied science institute comprises most of the research and most of the undergraduate and graduate training on vine and wine at Bordeaux.

Forest-Wood
(Inra, Cnrs, Universités Bordeaux 1 et 2)
Collaborative research relates to functional ecology (ecophysiology, physical transfert and cycle at different spatial scales), biodiversity of forest ecosystems (genetic and evolutionnary ecology, pathology and communities ecology) and wood biotechnology (biomecanic of tree and wood and new wood based products).
This basic and applied research cluster has classical and specific experimental facilities (permanent tower to measure carbon flux, long-term observatories of forest ecosystems, wood technological hall and platform. The research activities on forest and wood are implemented mainly at Pierroton Cestas.

Plant food Quality and safety (Inra, Enitab, Government laboratory on plant protection )
Research relates to cereal contamination by micro organisms (micro mycetes) and pest before and after harvest, on fungal production of mycotoxin and on modelisation and management of seeds stores. Experimental facilities comprise a building and a technological hall shared with the government agency on plant protection. This applied research cluster also relates to heavy metals contamination of soils and accumulation by plants.

Hydrobiology
(Inra, Ifremer, Bordeaux 1 University, Pau & Pays de l’Adour University)
Research relates to fish feeding and nutrition for aquaculture and on behavioral ecology and populations dynamic for wild fish populations. This basic and applied science cluster comprises specific experimental facilities for fish nutrition and behavior. This research area is implemented at St Pee sur Nivelle.

Human Nutrition and Neurosciences -emerging research area- (Inra, Cnrs, Bordeaux 2 University)
Research relates to relationship between nutrition and welfare analysed through the immunity and brain interactions and the regulation of corticosteroid axis in the metabolic and behavioral pathologies. It involves disciplines such as immunity, neuroscience physiology and psychology.
This research area is integrated in the neuroscience federative research institute of Bordeaux 2 University campus

Ecology
-emerging research area- (Inra, Cnrs, Bordeaux 1 University)
This research area aims to combine disciplinary research on functional ecology, evolutive ecology and community ecology of terrestrial into a basic science research cluster.
